At many of the schools I currently teach at students work on and are quite proficient across multiple digital devices. Some schools offer a device specific environment, whilst others encourage a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy. As part of a class project we wish to explore the benefits of creating a digital Art History Timeline, that students could potentially contribute to in class.
I was initially inspired by the thought of creating a collaborative Art History timeline at the beginning of the year during a visit to my Prac School. Several years ago while I was studying my Fine Art Degree I used to have pinned up on my wall at home the TATE Artist Timeline and found it incredibly useful when working on Art History assignments. As a visual thinker I found it useful when trying to place artists and movements in relationship to each other, I also found it valuable when relating these periods to very specific periods in history. So, one of the issues I’m hoping to address here in this blog is the use of ICT in the classroom. When I refer to the term ICT, I do of course mean mobile phones, tablet devices, laptops etc. The scope of ICT is much broader than just a physical device alone, as devices are merely the platform by which to access things like social media (twitter, facebook, pinterest, stumble upon, Skype, Google+, delicious, etc), email, video and other digital means.

This blog has been established primarily as a project piece for our class ‘Designing Learning for a Digital Generation’ within a Postgraduate Teaching Degree at UTS (Sydney). The aim is to look at emerging digital technologies and their implications in the classroom, specifically within the High School Art Class.
I anticipate things will change as I work through whats required for class and we figure out how this can best be used.
